Abstract
Controversy still remains on the exact reasons that were to cause Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, future Marquis of Pombal, to expel the Company of Jesus from the domains of the Crown of Portugal, including from Brazil, where the Jesuit missionary participation was essential in the process of consolidation of the colonial power. By fostering the view that the Guarani War, which is widely considered to be one of the main reasons that were to ignite this conflict, was provoked by Jesuits of the Spanish America missions. We have the objective to extend this discussion to the International Politic and Mercantile Relations scope, taking as reference the Master of The Order of Christ and the Treaty of Madrid.
