Resumo
Nabuco, um dos próceres da Abolição, ao fim de sua carreira política, exerceu importante atividade diplomática. Foi ministro do Brasil no Reino Unido e embaixador nos EUA. Defendeu os direitos do Brasil na disputa territorial com a Inglaterra com relação à Guiana inglesa. A sentença do rei da Itália como árbitro redundou em prejuízo para o Brasil, apesar da excelente defesa de Nabuco.

Abstract
Nabuco, one of the leaders for the abolition of slavery in Brazil, at the end of his political career became an important diplomat. He was Envoy to the United Kingdom and Ambassador to the USA. He defended the Brazilian rights in the territorial dispute with the United Kingdom over British Guyana. The sentence given by the arbitrator, the King of Italy, was detrimental to Brazil, despite the excellent defense prepared by Joaquim Nabuco.
