Resumo
A proposta deste trabalho é olhar para a aclamação de Dom João VI, acontecida em 6 de fevereiro de 1818, como a ocasião utilizada pelo monarca para colocar em evidência a transformação do Rio de Janeiro, de cidade colonial à capital do Reino Unido. Na passagem histórica de treze anos em que o monarca residiu no Brasil, ele soube explorar, nos grandes festejos reais, o papel das arquiteturas efêmeras, tanto as tradicionais, projetadas pelos portugueses, quanto as realizadas pelos franceses segundo os cânones neoclássicos. O resultante cenário alegórico, além de contribuir para converter a imagem da capital do novo reino, deixou importantes heranças, no que se refere a modernos códigos urbanos e arquitetônicos, para o futuro Império.

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to look at the acclamation of King John VI, that took place on February 6th, 1818, as the occasion used by the monarch to highlight the transformation of Rio de Janeiro from colonial city to the capital of the United Kingdom. In the thirteen years’ historical passage in which the monarch resided in Brazil, he was able to explore the role of ephemeral architectures in the great royal celebrations, both traditional, designed by the Portuguese, and those designed by the French according to the neoclassical canons. The resulting allegorical scenario, besides contributing to convert the image of the new kingdom’s capital, left important heritage regarding modern urban and architectural codes for the future Empire.
