At this celebration, it is also important to highlight the familiar perspective, its impression and contributions to building up the Euclidian identity in the social memory framework. Who is Euclides da Cunha to his descendents? What are the limits between the man and the myth? How much did the family contribute to the process of redrafting the imaginary built upon the dead man and his private memory? Can the past be found again? This article aims at analysing the long task of a family member, custodian of the memory of this character branded by the tragedy which stole life away from him, perpetuated by the masterpiece which revealed and brought to light aspects of the national life hitherto effaced by official history.
