Resumo
O artigo tem como objetivo principal analisar a presença de uma visão católica oitocentista na identidade e nas práticas abolicionistas da Princesa Isabel. Nesse sentido, o texto investiga a ação formal e efetiva da Regente no sentido de obter a aprovação da “Lei Áurea”. Esse investimento em torno do projeto de lei assinado em 13 de maio é entendido como a ponta de um iceberg, cujas bases circunscrevem-se ao redor de um projeto católico de sociedade e de sua relação com as perspectivas de um Terceiro Reinado.

Abstract
This article has as its main objective to analyze the presence of an Eighteenthentury Catholic view in the identity and abolishing practices of Princess Isabel. In this sense, the text investigates the Regent’s effective intervention in the passing of the bill abolishing slavery called ‘Lei Aurea’. This process that leads to the passing of the bill on the 13th of May is understood as the tip of an iceberg, whose basis rests on an Catholic view of society and on the prospects for a Third Reign.
