Resumo
Este artigo pretende discutir a difícil missão dos delegados de Portugal ao Congresso de Viena de 1815. O reino de Portugal foi invadido e devastado pelas forças do imperador Napoleão Bonaparte na chamada Guerra Peninsular. Pelo esforço de seu povo e em aliança com a Ingla- terra, conseguiu expulsar o exército francês in- vasor e, prosseguindo na luta, contribuiu para a vitória final contra Bonaparte. Apesar disso, no Congresso de Viena, reunido para resolver as questões políticas, sociais e econômicas deriva- das dos anos de guerra contra Napoleão, Por- tugal não recebeu, por parte da tetrarquia que dominou a reunião – Áustria, Inglaterra, Rússia e Prússia –, o reconhecimento desses esforços, não conseguindo obter as reparações de guerra a que tinha direito.

Abstract
The goal of this article is to discuss the diffi- cult mission of the Portuguese delegates to the Congress of Vienna in 1815. The kingdom of Portugal had been invaded and devastated by the forces of emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in the Peninsular War. With the effort of her people and in alliance with England, Portugal had managed to expel the invading French army and, in continuing the fight, contributed to the final victory against Bonaparte. Nonetheless, at the Congress of Vienna, which was meeting to resolve the political, social and economic issues resulting from the years of war against Napo- leon, Portugal failed to receive from the tetrar- chy of Austria, England, Russia and Prussia, which dominated the meeting, recognition for her efforts, and thus did not receive the repara- tions for the war which were her right.
