Abstract
The Revolution of 1817 in Pernambuco in the northeast of Brazil was held back in Ceará in the north, and in Bahia in the south. It was therefore intended to spread all over Brazil and had no separatist claims. It emerged in Recife because the city had been a major port of export for sugarcane and cotton since the period of the Dutch invasions in the seventeenth century. The international emissary of the Revolution of 1817 to the United States spoke on behalf of Brazil and not as a Northeastern.
Key Words: National revolution of 1817; non-separatist, international emissary.
