Resumo
Clóvis Beviláqua era do Ceará, foi aluno na Faculdade de Direito do Recife e passou a maior parte da vida no Rio de Janeiro. Estudantes do Norte e Nordeste vinham à Faculdade de Pernambuco e os do Sul à de São Paulo, as primeiras do Brasil, criadas ambas em 1827. Beviláqua tornou-se jurista germanista por influência de Tobias Barreto. Também dele recebeu influência eslavófila, revelando-lhe a literatura russa da qual Beviláqua foi o primeiro divulgador no Brasil. Além de jurista, Clóvis Beviláqua era escritor e crítico literário, influenciado ainda por Sílvio Romero, porém mantendo específica originalidade que o tornou, inclusive, membro da Academia Brasileira de Letras.

Abstract
Born in the state of Ceará, Clóvis Beviláqua studied law at the Faculty of Law of Recife and spent most of his life in Rio de Janeiro. Students coming from the North and Northeast of the country would attend back then the Faculty of Law of Pernambuco, and those coming from the South the Faculty of Law of São Paulo, the first two law faculties in Brazil founded in 1827. Beviláqua became a Germanist under the influence of Tobias Barreto, who also introduced him to Russian literature, of which Beviláqua became the first popularizer in Brazil. In addition to being a jurist, Clóvis Beviláqua was also a writer and a literary critic influenced by Silvio Romero, but whose originality was so singular that he was elected as member of Brazilian Academy of Letters.
